Whether you need to promote an upcoming local event, exhibition, or product promotion flyers can be a very effective and cost efficient form of advertising. But to avoid wasting money on a stack of useless flyers, it’s important to make sure that the design is as good as it can possibly be.

Here are 6 simple design tips to use for in-house design or to guide your agency — to ensure that you maximize the effectiveness of your next promotional flyer.

1. Use an attention-grabbing image

Placing one large, striking image in the top half of your flyers is much more effective than using several smaller images. A great image will grab the reader’s attention, and draw them in. If you have to use several images on the flyer, group them together to create a single element.

2. Keep fonts to a minimum

Keep things as simple as possible by incorporating a maximum of two fonts. Use a bold sans serif font for the headline, and another easy-to-read, serif font for the flyer’s body copy. Text should be centrally aligned, so the reader’s eyes do not have to jump around the flyer to take in the information.

3. Choose your words carefully

The headline of your flyer should be snappy and catchy. It’s the first thing that will be read, and needs to ‘pull in’ the reader and encourage them to read the rest of the information. For the body copy of the flyer, you should include the key selling points of the event or product you would like to promote. Why should people go to your event or buy your new product? Clearly and concisely tell them why, on the flyer.
