3 Personal Branding and Social Media Predictions That Will Impact Your Small Business

Personal branding predictions, with social media implications.

This becomes even more important as you and your employees post, share, like, tweet, and retweet — because your online social consumption also reflects your personality. These trends, once leveraged could improve marketing, branding, human resources recruitment and various facets of your business.

The major differentiation point for your company and competitive brands will be the adoption of this type of data and active use to tap its endless potential.

3. Online social media checks

Prediction: Companies will include mandatory online presence background checks as a part of the recruitment process.

It may not be mandatory for your recruitment, but most companies at some level are checking out their potential new hire’s Facebook profile and Twitter feeds. Performing a “social media check” is not unheard of — in fact, it will likely soon be the norm.

“Nearly two in five companies (37 percent) use social networking sites to research job candidates, according to a new survey from CareerBuilder, the largest online employment website in the United States. “Of the employers who do not research candidates on social media, 15 percent said their company prohibits the practice. Eleven percent report they do not currently use social media to screen, but plan to start.”

The study also highlighted why companies, and possibly your hiring managers find social media screening to be effective. Respondents utilize these type of checks to see if the candidate:

a. Presents himself/herself professionally – 65 percent

b. Is a good fit for the company culture – 51 percent

c. Is well-rounded – 35 percent

d. Should actually be hired – 12 percent

Whether or not your company decides to utilize social media checks in the recruitment process is largely dependent on your company culture. But before you do, consider the pros and cons of using social media for recruitment, screening and background checks.
