4. I’m Not a Good Writer

Fair enough. Even those of us who think we are, are not – so you’re in good company.

If you aren’t confident about your writing skills, run through your professional contacts and ask for a referral. If you don’t have a “network” visit sites like Elance.com or Freelance.com to locate and hire a freelance writer. Hire them then pay them. Memorize what they write for you, so you can repeat your story. Don’t let a lack of writing skill hold you back.

No more excuses. Go and create your ‘money shot’ on your company website or blog in your About Me section. Be honest and let your personality shine through.

I remember when I was in various marketing roles at large corporations. A team of lawyers would scrutinize the marketing copy and redact all the “cans” and “wills” from the copy. They said, “Look, you can’t say something will happen – that is a guarantee. We don’t want someone suing us for not making something happen.”

Well, screw the legal profession. Sharing a compelling backstory is the one free marketing tip that can and will change your business.

PS. Anyone contacting me about my guarantee should contact my lawyer.
