Are you feeling wound up, stressed out and confused by the lack of shares for your content on your company website or blog?

Are you feeling wound up, stressed out and confused by the lack of shares for your content on your company website or blog?

Social media has become an influential channel for small businesses. It has opened a gateway to profits and influence for many entrepreneurs. So, if you’re feeling stuck it’s time to test a few new ideas and you can start with these six tips:

  1. Understand the drivers of social sharing.

Why do people share content on social media? The science behind why people love to share is that it strengthens identity, yields influence, manage perceptions and benefits others. Research suggests that self defining and self fulfilling behavior are key aspects: “68% share to give people a better sense of who they are and what they care about,” while “69% share information because it allows them to feel more involved in the world” (Source: Coschedule).

  2. Design an inviting user experience.

With the hype of smartphones and apps it’s highly likely that most website visitors are viewing your content from their mobile devices. This is why it’s important that your website is user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and quick to respond. Simple improvements in website accessibility can increase pageviews and social sharing.

  3. Make social sharing buttons readily available.

People are more likely to take interest in sharing your content when you make things easier for them. Sharing buttons are available for all of the most popular social networks (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram etc.). Make sure social sharing buttons are properly placed on your website’s pages so visitors can click and share with ease.

  4. Get to know your social audience.

It is crucial to understand your audience. Figure out which social networks they use more than others and which ones they don’t. Start with learning the key demographics of each social network and how their audience aligns with yours.

  5. Enhance content shareability.

It is important that your content is unique, eye catching and readable. You can always do that by incorporating the following tips: Use short headlines, address the right target audience, elicit sentiments, be creative and share user-friendly content formats.

  6. Use high resolution and quality graphics.

According to MDG Advertising, “Articles with images get 94% more total views.” As Michael Stelzner, the founder and CEO of Social Media Examiner, explains, “You have to remember that as humans, we connect emotionally to images more than video, audio or text. People make decisions and take action quicker when prompted by images, rather than by reading a lot of text.” Consider the popularity of platforms like Pinterest and Instagram that are purely image driven and incorporate content that can easily be shared in this way.
