I believe the best successes for PR Couture are right around the corner, but certainly my book launch is an exciting and satisfying personal accomplishment. I wrote “Ready to Launch: The PR Couture Guide to Breaking into Fashion PR,” for public relations students and entry-level practitioners. And for individuals and brands I offer personalized guidance via Power Sessions — one-on-one strategy sessions.

Beyond that, Microsoft’s sponsorship of PR Couture to attend New York Fashion Week SS09 was an incredible experience. I think it was the first time I took a step back, thought about what I had created and where I was, and felt a trill of satisfaction from my inner thirteen-year-old self!

Biggest Startup Challenge

I didn’t set out to develop PR Couture as a business, so I was slow to monetize and develop a business model. I also worked full-time in addition to developing and growing the site. Given that I currently have a day job to support my “other life,” I have not had the sink or swim mentality that drives so many entrepreneurs to succeed no matter what.

#1 Tip for Entrepreneurs

It is great to be prepared, organized and clear on your business goals. But don’t get so caught up in developing mission statements, company values and target audiences that you don’t actually start your business. Instead, give it your best shot, start now and refine your startup over time. Do great work and see who shows up.
