IBM Lotus Live

IBM’s Lotus Live solution is a full-featured suite of products — and a favorite among businesses thanks to its reasonable monthly fee and robust feature set. Also, both the IBM and Lotus brand names are synonymous with business computing and networking solutions, leading to greater adoption due to the trust both brands have engendered.

File sharing, remote screen sharing, chat functionality, detailed meeting reports, and the ability to have multiple presenters make Lotus Live a well-rounded competitor in the video conferencing space.

Microsoft Live Meeting

Microsoft Office Live Meeting is a commercial subscription-based web conferencing service operated by Microsoft.  The The software is available for free download from the Microsoft website and provides instant video conferencing for both small and large groups.

In addition to the basic conferencing features, users can share files and PowerPoint presentations with one another through the live video chat. Live Meeting offers a feedback function, which allows presenters to obtain real-time feedback from conference participants.

Video conferencing can make your dream of developing a remote, or mobile workforce a reality. Benefits include lower overhead costs (i.e. office space, commuting and technology). Also, many video conference solutions are BYOD enabled (bring your own device — laptop and mobile device), which are supplied by employees themselves rather than an IT department.

In short — video conferencing levels the playing field by equipping startups with the same benefits once reserved for the “big boys,” at a fraction of the cost.

What are some other video conferencing solutions you use to run your small business? Let me know in the comments section below.
