Best Success Story:

Jonathan and I launched our startup in a small St. Louis office and a second office in China. I was in St. Louis, Jonathan is fluent in Mandarin so he was based in China. The dual representation has proven to be our biggest strategic and competitive advantage.

Ultimately, having dual headquarters impressed our clients and we’ve quickly grown our business in four years to 50 employees in five countries and ten offices.

Biggest Startup Challenge:

China is a very fluid market right now, with new regions of the country becoming manufacturing hubs. The labor cost fluctuates so much throughout the country that we constantly need to stay ahead of market shifts.

We have overcome this challenge, but it is a constant concern of ours because our clients hire us to initiate cost effective strategies.

#1 Tip for Entrepreneurs:

When conducting business in foreign countries immerse yourself in their culture and economy.

Even as a U.S. company, it is important to have your own people in that market. If you cannot afford to have your own people in a foreign country, hire a trustworthy partner to facilitate your foreign strategy.
