1. How I came up with the concept of Applico:

In 2009, I was in college and wanted to run my own company. Mobile was a hot and growing sector. I loved technology and decided to start my own mobile app company.

In its first year of existence, I rolled out my own mobile app which was sold to consumers. It became a best selling travel app; however, at the same time, people started asking for help making their own apps. So, I started consulting projects in tandem with running my own products.

By the end of my first year in business, I closed a deal for a NBC and Verizon project. At that point, I decided to focus solely on the services business model rather than the actual product.

Today we house the largest roster of on-shore mobile developers in the country. Our engineering leads come from a Department of Defense background, having worked on situational awareness applications for the Navy and early warning radar and missile defense systems for the Army.

To date, Applico has developed mobile solutions for leading companies and consumer brands including AT&T, General Motors, Toshiba, Pearson Publishing, Cartus and PWC. Applico now has more than 75 strategists, designers, and developers and expects to grow to at least 200 by the end of 2012.

2. Ambition:

I love building things and plan to do the same for Applico.

We are very unique: we are a cash flow positive, profitable technology company that hasn’t taken institutional capital. Nor do we plan to.

This gives us a great deal of flexibility and independence to focus on building a great company which is going to make a lot of waves in the industry.
