3. Presentation Meetings

What should you wear to a meeting with a VC or investor? “While you should be yourself, keep the following in mind: you’re selling. Selling yourself, your ideas, how you’re interesting and why they might extend themselves to help you (money aside). This means connecting with your audience. Is attire part of this? Maybe, maybe not,” says Roger Ehrenberg, Managing Partner at IA Ventures.

Again, keep it simple. You will likely be moving around, using a projector, and passing papers around, so you need to wear something that will make you look professional, but give you flexibility.

When in doubt, a pant suit is ideal for a presentation. You won’t have to worry about any skirt mishaps, and you’ll be covered by a blazer. Pumps for shoes are perfect because they are comfortable and help you stay on your toes. Most importantly, “the point of dressing appropriately is to not only convey that you have the wherewithal to make the simplest of decisions, but also to keep the VCs focused on what’s important – your product and your business.” (ReadWrite)

4. Making the Rounds / Introductions

When you start connecting with entrepreneurs, they will likely want to make introductions. When you make the rounds a knee-length skirt or dress with a tailored blazer is perfect. You’ll be able to shake hands with confidence.

5. Working Together

Organizations such as We Work are opening up all over the world. It’s a place for entrepreneurs to work together on their own projects, but then be able to connect with one another too. In this situation, you can relax in how professional you dress, but you should still keep in mind that you are always selling (even when you’re not). Pants with a sweater for the winter is a good staple outfit. For the warmer months, choose shirts that are at least short sleeved and aren’t low cut. Pants, at the knee pencil skirts, and fitted pants are great choices for spring and summer.

With these tips you’ll be able to easily exude confidence no matter what situation you find yourself in. Looking sharp and professional in every situation is the right way to start any business endeavor.

Now get out there, look great and make your business a success!
