In order to live a creative lifestyle, you are constantly on the go at any given moment. Key essentials can be the difference between having a productive meeting in the city, or another wasted Monday.
Here’s a look at my favorites, what I consider to be the essentials that every creative should have to be productive outside of the office.
Creative Coffee Mug
I can’t speak for everyone, but my morning doesn’t officially start until I have my cup of coffee. Having a fresh cup of coffee not only energizes me, but gives me a fleeting moment of bliss, as well as peace, before starting a hectic day that lies ahead.
Even though it’s easy to opt for a Starbucks Grande, it’s also refreshing to enjoy a pot right in your own kitchen with that special coffee mug.
This “History of Art” mug, featuring an illustration created by Donald Seitz, playfully references the likenesses of many influential artists featured in the MOMA Museum collection including Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Van Gough, Picasso, Rothko, and Pollock. Start your day like a true artist and get your hands on this art piece.
Every creative needs an accessory to hold their money, business cards and ID. Unless you have the newest iWatch or iPay, leaving the house without your wallet is the greatest sin. Instead of opting for a huge wallet the size of an iPhone 6+, grab something sleeker and more diminutive.
The Note Sleeve ($89) wallet by Bellboy fits tall currencies like GBP and Yen really well while still keeping the overall wallet thickness to a minimum. Designed to combine a slim silhouette with easy access, the Note Sleeve showcases 3 quick access slots and pull tab for less used card in premium vegetable tanned cow leather.
Ultra Slim Phone Case
As mobile phones get bigger, the cases get bulkier and more cumbersome — it feels like you’re carrying a life-size brick. I’m sure we don’t have to stress the importance of protecting your smartphone, but with the lack of stylish (and functional) phone cases on the market, finding a sturdy one can be quite the dilemma. Luckily, Sena Cases has the solution.
Handcrafted with heritage leather that ages over time revealing a darker tone, the Heritage Ultra Slim is the perfect case that protects your phone without all of the superfluous buckles, clips and extra bulky features you don’t need. It is also waterproof, which will protect your phone from minor spills as you maneuver on the go.
A USB should be on every creatives must-have list. Carrying large files on your devices eats up a lot of space, and you may not always have access to the cloud, but having a USB handy is easily available and provides a backup for important files. Yet, you’re not looking for just any old USB, you need the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s of USBs — The LaCie RuggedKey.
Built to withstand accidental drops, its rubber construction is 100-meter drop-resistant. Available in two options, you can get a 16GB for $40 USD or a 32GB version for $70 USD. Protect your hard work and invest in a USB that’s built to last.
Messenger Laptop Bag
Carrying a travel bag that’s sturdy, durable and commuter-friendly is a win in the bag (pun intended) and Hard Graft’s Flat Pack is ideal for creatives on the move. This slim bag fits your iPad Pro, MacBook, wallet, phone, etc … and because you carry your most valuable essentials with you, the Flat Pack is designed safe too. The cross body travel bag offers clever design — a zipper opening on the inside of the bag, so the only one who can easily access it is you.
The great thing about being a creative and living a creative lifestyle is that the world becomes your office with these five essentials.
