The Best Holiday Sales Tips: Six Ways to Increase Black Friday Sales

Here are six simple ways every small business can gain Black Friday sales traction.

4. Amplify sales messages using coupon websites.

If couponing aligns with your marketing strategy, don’t forget to amplify the reach of your savings news. Generally coupon websites enjoy a traffic boost from holiday shoppers and many buyers specifically keep track of the coupons they receive from retailers during the holiday season.

Sites such as Coupons.com, CouponCabin.com, RetailMeNot.com and others offer a great platform to offer up your best holiday sales.

5. Don’t forget mobile shoppers.

Don’t ignore mobile. Four out of 5 consumers use smartphones to shop, according to comScore. This means that millions of consumers use their mobile devices to shop, research deals and gain information about your company.

“Mobile coupons are most popular at grocery stores, (41% of mobile shoppers said they used coupons there), department stores (41%), and clothing stores (39%). At electronics stores, the majority (73%) read reviews, compare prices (71%), and scan QR codes (57%) (Source: Nielsen, 2012).”

Make consumer shopping comparisons easier by sharing competitive price benchmarks, if you offer a better deal than a local competitor. Share updates of your most popular sales items, amplify review-based marketing messages, and offer a way for consumers to easily review your products and share the reviews directly with their friends. Also, promote mobile shopping by offering a discount when customers shop for products via their mobile device.

6. Develop location-based offers for customers that check-in.

Using Foursquare or other location-based social apps to activate new sales. Seventy four percent (74%) of U.S. consumers use location based services on their smartphone and 46% of mobile phone users use location based services (Source: Pew Internet & American Life Project, 2012).

Many customers will use shopping apps and want to receive information on their mobile device while inside your brick-and-mortar store. Develop a campaign that rewards social check-ins — sending an instant in-store offer to their mobile device and enabling them to pass along the savings to friends.
