Many entrepreneurs believe that a career overhaul is the only path to improved work-life balance. However, oftentimes, the slightest endeavor of new beginnings can bring about the greatest rewards.

In Gigi’s instance, she hasn’t deviated much from the world of writing. The only difference these days is that “the shift was simply from a more marketing-focused type of writing to creative storytelling.

3 Transformative Lessons For Entrepreneurs

Reflecting on her career shift and life changes as an entrepreneur Gigi offers three key lessons for entrepreneurs who want to move outside of their comfort zones:

  1. Learn where you are with what you have.

Learn as much as you can where you are. Gigi recalls: “When I was working for someone else, I spent a lot of time trying to learn how they ran their business. I sat down with the accountant and asked a bunch of questions. I volunteered to help other departments with their projects whenever I had a slow day on my own stuff. And when it was time to run my own business, I felt absolutely ready to take on the organization of the whole thing.”

  2. Listen. Your customers will tell you what they love.

Today, Gigi has time to focus on two passion points she loves: writing and helping people travel and live more authentically. Today, she measures her success in joy – gratified by the fact that she has found a niche she takes complete joy in filling, a niche that allows her to impact people lives, while making money.

  3. Make unlikely connections.

Gigi contends that the connections she’s made with people have been the most rewarding. The emails she receives stating that her work “inspired them to do the thing they wanted to do, made them feel less alone, and made them think that maybe, just maybe, their dreams were possible.” Through the connections and impact she makes, Gigi is far from feeling lonely or disconnected while living abroad as a world citizen.
